Unwanted Hair on Your Face or Body: What Helps

Unwanted hair on your face, underarms, legs, or bikini line is a common concern. Shaving, waxing, plucking, and threading remove hair for days or weeks, then the hair returns. Hormones, genetics, and skin type all play a part in how much hair grows and where. If you want a longer-term solution, look for a treatment targeting the hair follicle at the root, not one working on the surface.

Where This Leads

IPL hair removal at Kirei Clinic uses the Lynton Excelight device to target hair follicles with light energy. Sessions are timed to your hair growth cycle, since hair grows in different phases and treatment works best on follicles in an active growth stage. Over a course of sessions, IPL delivers permanent hair reduction. Dr Mei, Dr Rosie and Louise, a GDC-registered Dental Nurse, all deliver IPL treatment as part of a full assessment of your skin and hair growth pattern, with who treats you depending on booking availability. IPL runs from our Leeds clinic only. Read the full clinical detail on our IPL treatment page.

FAQs

Is this the same as permanent hair removal?

No. IPL delivers permanent hair reduction, a lasting drop in hair growth after a full course of sessions. Some fine or pale hairs respond less well and need occasional maintenance sessions over time.

Most people need a course of six to eight sessions, spaced a few weeks apart and timed to your hair growth cycle. Your practitioner confirms a plan for you after assessing your hair growth pattern and skin type at consultation.

Most patients describe a warm snapping feeling against the skin, similar to a light elastic band flick. Sensation varies by area and by your own pain threshold. Numbing cream is available for sensitive areas.
